What the 2026/27 Coupe de France Involves

The Coupe de France is France's premier domestic cup, open to clubs from Ligue 1 down through the lower tiers of French football, and the 2026/27 edition brings together 60 clubs in a straight knockout format. Ligue 1's leading names, including PSG, Marseille and Lyon, enter the competition alongside sides from across the professional and amateur game, with each round played on a single-match, sudden-death basis.

Other Ligue 1 clubs in this season's draw include Lens, Lille, Stade Rennais and AS Monaco, all of whom join the competition at a later stage than the lower-division clubs still working through the earliest rounds, in line with the format's usual structure.

How the Draw Is Structured

The competition runs through a clear sequence of rounds once the wider knockout phase narrows to the clubs still involved at professional level. These stages each have their own page as fixtures are confirmed: Round of 64, Round of 32, Round of 16, and the Quarter-Finals, leading on to the Semi-Finals and the final itself.

Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 clubs typically enter the competition from around the Round of 64 onward, once several rounds of purely regional and amateur fixtures have already reduced the wider field, which is one reason the tournament grows in profile the further it progresses.

Clubs to Follow Through the Rounds

Alongside the Ligue 1 giants, this season's draw includes clubs such as AJ Auxerre, Angers, Brest, Le Havre AC, Le Mans, Lorient, Nice, Paris FC, Strasbourg and Toulouse, each with the chance to build a cup run against opposition they might not otherwise face during a normal league season. The format's single-match nature means Ligue 1 sides regularly find themselves tested by lower-division clubs playing in front of passionate home crowds, which is part of what makes the Coupe de France one of the most unpredictable competitions in French football.

Further down the entry list, clubs including AS Nancy Lorraine, Dunkerque, Grenoble, Guingamp, Metz, Montpellier and Troyes also feature among this season's 60 entrants, reflecting the wide geographical spread the competition draws on each year.

Why the Coupe de France Draws a Crowd

Because every tie is a single match rather than a two-legged affair, home clubs from outside the top division often get a rare shot at hosting one of the country's best-supported teams. That unpredictability, combined with the prestige of lifting a major domestic trophy, keeps interest high from the early rounds right through to the final, which is traditionally one of the best-attended matches of the French football calendar.

Comparing Coupe de France Tickets

We compare Coupe de France ticket listings across StubHub, Viagogo, Hellotickets, Football Ticket Net, Gigsberg and SportsEvents365, so supporters can weigh up prices before deciding where to buy. As the rounds progress and the draw narrows towards clubs like PSG and Marseille, demand for tickets typically increases, particularly for any tie that pairs a top-flight side against unfamiliar opposition.

Fans following a smaller club through the competition should expect ticket availability and demand to shift quickly once a favourable draw against a Ligue 1 opponent is confirmed, since these are the fixtures that tend to sell out fastest at grounds built for a much smaller regular crowd.
